Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are solvents derived from petroleum or other chemical sources. When these compounds evaporate into the atmosphere and become exposed to sunlight, they can react with auto emissions to create air pollution. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has established guidelines that require every state to reduce VOC emission levels.
Since most blanket and roller washes contain close to 100% VOC and the EPA guidelines call for reduction of these solvents, printers must seek alternatives to the blanket and roller washes they currently use.
